Jakarta, January 26, 2025 – Amid the dynamics of the oil and gas industry, PT Pertamina (Persero) has successfully maintained its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) risk level at the "Medium Risk" category. Pertamina has been included in the Global 50 Top Rated Industry on the Annual List of ESG issued by the independent ESG rating agency, Morningstar Sustainalytics.
Sustainalytics recognizes that the oil and gas industry is laden with risks, including operational risks and emissions produced. This poses a challenge for Pertamina in implementing various sustainability policies and efforts. Consequently, Pertamina has maintained its ESG risk at the Medium level without significant incidents affecting its business continuity.
Fadjar Djoko Santoso, Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, stated that ESG is a primary focus for Pertamina, aligning with its business strategy known as the "Dual Growth Strategy." Through this strategy, Pertamina continues its existing business of energy provision for the Indonesian public while simultaneously driving innovation and adopting green energy solutions.
"With this strategy, Pertamina strives to manage business risks while working to reduce emissions from operations and develop more environmentally friendly products," Fadjar explained.
Fadjar further noted that Sustainalytics has increased the weight of its scoring on implementation indicators, not just policy indicators. Through an unsolicited assessment method initiated by the rating agency, Pertamina scored 26.9 in December 2024, reflecting a Medium Risk level.
"Pertamina's ESG score is in a favorable position, considering the high ESG risks faced by companies involved in oil and gas exploration, exploitation, production, and processing. This new score also reflects a relatively strong position compared to similar companies," Fadjar elaborated.
He added that Pertamina remains committed to pursuing sustainability efforts, including policies, implementations, and positive impacts on society and the environment. This commitment goes beyond merely maintaining the ESG rating score; it represents Pertamina's dedication as a sustainable company for all stakeholders and the planet’s future.
Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
