Encouraging Food Self-Sufficiency, Pertamina Facilitates Poultry Slaughterhouses to Obtain Halal Certification

Jakarta, January 24, 2025 – PT Pertamina (Persero) has provided guidance and facilitated its Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) partners in obtaining halal certification from the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH). One of the targeted certifications is aimed at MSMEs operating in Poultry Slaughterhouses (RPU), as they supply raw materials for poultry-based food products.

RPU serves as the upstream process for determining a product's halal status. MSMEs in the food business using poultry-based raw materials cannot secure halal certification unless the RPU, as the raw materials source, is halal-certified.

Fadjar Djoko Santoso, Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, stated that facilitating MSMEs to achieve halal certification demonstrates Pertamina’s commitment to providing consumer protection and legal assurance of the products’ halal status used by the public. It also supports food self-sufficiency by ensuring product quality in society.

“Halal certification reflects a strong commitment to hygiene standards, quality, and the products’ halal status, thus protecting consumers by ensuring they receive high-quality products. On the other hand, halal certification specifically for Poultry Slaughterhouses is expected to create a multiplier effect for MSMEs in the poultry-based food sector, enabling them to pursue their halal certification process,” said Fadjar.

Halal certification has boosted the competitiveness and sales of two MSMEs in the Poultry Slaughterhouse business: Ayame Narti in Berau, East Kalimantan, and RPU Lintang Chicken in Central Lampung, Lampung Province.

Rokhim, the owner of RPU "Ayame Narti," expressed gratitude and appreciation for Pertamina’s guidance and support in obtaining halal certification.

“With this halal certificate, we hope to provide better service and increase public trust in our products. Therefore, people do not need to search for halal poultry products outside Berau Regency,” he said.

The halal certification issuance to Ayame Narti is critical, as it is the first poultry slaughterhouse in Berau Regency. With the certification, RPU "Ayame Narti" has become a pioneer in halal poultry slaughtering services, inspiring other MSMEs to improve their business quality.

Similar sentiments were shared by Ninengah Sudiarti, the owner of RPU Lintang Chicken in Rumbia District, Central Lampung Regency, Lampung Province. Lintang Chicken, an MSME offering poultry slaughtering services, is the first RPU in Rumbia District to acquire halal certification.

“With the halal certification facilitated by Pertamina, our business has gained broader trust from small business operators,” said Ninengah.

In addition to offering poultry slaughtering services, Lintang Chicken provides whole chicken products, chicken fillets, marinated chicken, and more. With halal certification, the public has greater confidence and assurance in receiving halal and high-quality products.

Around 20 small business operators near Rumbia District source their poultry from Lintang Chicken as raw materials. This poultry is primarily used for marinated chicken, which is later processed into crispy fried chicken.

As a state-owned enterprise, Pertamina facilitates halal certification, creating a multiplier effect from upstream to downstream, from slaughtering to the downstream processing of poultry products. This effort aligns with the government's "Asta Cita" program under President Prabowo Subianto, aiming to improve MSME welfare and public health through food self-sufficiency.

Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
