Pertamina Officially Launches New Diesel X Product, a Low-Sulfur Fuel
Jakarta, January 30, 2025 – Pertamina has officially launched an environmentally friendly fuel called Diesel X.
Through the Subholding Refining & Petrochemical PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI) Balongan Unit, Pertamina has once again innovated with its ultra-low sulphur Diesel fuel.
President Director of Pertamina, Simon Aloysius Mantiri, stated that the launch of Diesel X strengthens Pertamina's position as a state-owned energy company prioritizing innovation and sustainability. It is part of the support for energy independence in line with the Asta Cita vision of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
“The launch of Diesel X is an answer to the challenges of achieving energy resilience and independence, where this product not only delivers high performance but also emphasizes fuel efficiency and lower emissions,” Simon explained.
He added that Diesel X represents Pertamina's response to global demands for cleaner energy. Diesel X comes with the latest technology that can reduce the negative environmental impact and provide the best solution for customers in industries that use heavy-duty vehicles, such as mining.
Simon appreciated everyone who worked hard to develop the Diesel X product. “This product will not only provide short-term benefits but will also contribute greatly to realizing Pertamina's vision of becoming a sustainable and innovative energy company,” said Simon.
President Director of PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI), Taufik Aditiyawarman, emphasized that Diesel X is a concrete manifestation of PT KPI’s commitment to providing cleaner, more efficient, and environmentally friendly energy for the people and industries of Indonesia.
“The Balongan refinery has successfully improved the production process to produce Diesel X, ensuring the best quality and performance for diesel-engine vehicles and other industrial sectors,” Taufik said.
Taufik added that Diesel X would provide significant benefits in terms of engine performance, fuel efficiency, and reduced exhaust emissions.
Diesel X, produced at the Balongan Refinery, has a sulfur content of <10 ppm. Currently, the Balongan Refinery's capacity to produce Diesel X reaches 200,000 barrels per month, and during the launch, 52,000 barrels will be sent to the industrial sector, specifically to PT Freeport Indonesia.
Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, added that the Diesel X innovation produced and managed by PT KPI is an effort toward energy independence in supporting the government's energy independence program.
With EURO V standards, Diesel X is ideal for heavy equipment used in the mining industry. Diesel X also offers a fuel efficiency improvement of about 7%.
“This product is the result of synergy within the Pertamina Group, with research conducted at Pertamina’s Research, Technology, and Innovation Laboratory, production at Pertamina Kilang Internasional, and distribution through Pertamina Patra Niaga,” Fadjar continued.
Additionally, in the same period of January 2025, Pertamina launched another product, Diesel B40 fuel, and aviation fuel, Pertamina Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), made from Used Cooking Oil (UCO).
