Bogor, January 16, 2025 – Pertamina, as a state-owned energy enterprise, is committed to conducting its business with a focus on environmental sustainability. This commitment was demonstrated by participating in the Tree-Planting event in the Upper Ciliwung River, at Gunung Mas and Danau Saat, the source of the Ciliwung River, on Thursday, January 16, 2025. The event was also attended by the Minister of Environment, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq.
This tree-planting initiative aims to preserve the Ciliwung River while addressing triple planetary crisis challenges, which include climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss.
"We must join hands to tackle these issues. This tree planting is part of the effort to protect and restore the Ciliwung River Basin’s ecosystem. Therefore, it can be utilized by future generations," said Minister of Environment, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq.
The Ciliwung River Basin, which spans from Bogor to Jakarta, has significant pollution levels. According to Hanif, its preservation requires collaboration from all parties, including the government, businesses, and the community.
"We invite the society to preserve the Ciliwung River from upstream to downstream. This river plays an essential role in our lives, and its preservation is a shared responsibility. Today, we return to the source to restore the Ciliwung River, ensuring that over 11 million people living downstream can be protected," Hanif explained.
Alfian Nasution, Director of Infrastructure and Logistics of Pertamina stated that Pertamina is always actively addressing environmental issues and implementing green initiatives through various corporate policies, such as greenhouse gas management, waste management, biodiversity conservation, and other efforts, including tree planting across regions in Indonesia and river ecosystem restoration.
"This tree planting has tremendous benefits, one of which is rehabilitating damaged land. The trees we plant will help improve soil structure, increase fertility, and enhance water retention and infiltration," said Alfian.
Moreover, trees play a crucial role in ensuring water resources sustainability and provide long-term benefits to the environment and surrounding communities.
Alfian emphasized that Pertamina cannot manage these challenges alone. Support and collaborative actions from the Ministry of Environment and other partners are crucial to ensuring the success of these programs.
"Collaboration is the key to the success of all initiatives today. I appreciate the close cooperation between Pertamina, the Ministry of Environment, and all involved parties. Together, we can create a more significant impact on the environment and society," Alfian added.
According to Alfian, tree planting is not just an ecological action but also a long-term investment for the country’s future.
"More importantly, we must ensure trees grow well and provide optimal benefits. Therefore, I invite all parties to maintain this spirit of collaboration and take care of what we planted today," Alfian concluded.
The Tree-Planting event in the Upper Ciliwung River was also attended by Deputy Minister of Environment, Diaz Hendropriyono, Acting Regent of Bogor, Bachril Bakri, and CEO of PTPN I, Teddy Yunirman Danas.
