Supporting Energy and Food Self-Sufficiency, Pertamina Builds 159 Desa Energi Berdikari

Jakarta, February 3, 2025 – PT Pertamina (Persero), as a state-owned enterprise (SOE), continues to actively support energy and food self-sufficiency at the village level through the Desa Energi Berdikari (DEB/Independent Energy Village) Program. As of 2024, Pertamina has established 159 DEB locations across Indonesia, benefiting 35,746 households. This program has successfully generated 733,559 Watt peak (Wp) of clean energy per year, along with 846,180 metric tons of biogas and methane annually.

Fadjar Djoko Santoso, Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, stated that the DEB Program optimizes the abundant clean energy resources available in rural areas, supporting the government's target of reducing emissions and achieving net zero emissions (NZE) by 2060.

"Indonesia has significant renewable energy potential to support national energy self-sufficiency. The DEB Program serves as an ideal platform to introduce sustainable clean energy to rural communities," said Fadjar.

Fadjar further explained that the DEB Program utilizes renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, micro-hydro, and biogas. This initiative has successfully reduced carbon emissions by 729,000 tons of CO2 equivalent per year.

The program has also strengthened food security in rural areas, increasing rice production by up to 15,762 tons annually. Economically, the program has boosted village economies by IDR 3.6 billion per year, directly benefiting local communities.

"DEB is implemented by all Pertamina subsidiaries and sub-holdings, with locations spanning from Aceh to Papua," Fadjar added.

One of the DEB projects, operated by Pertamina in collaboration with PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE) through the PGE Kamojang Area, is located in Kampung Legok Pulus, Sukakarya Village, Garut Regency.

This village has an 8.72 kWp solar panel installation and a 10 kWh battery storage system. This infrastructure enables the community to save up to IDR 18 million annually on energy costs while reducing carbon emissions by 11.4 tons of CO2 annually.

This program directly benefits the local community, particularly the members of the Mekarsari Women's Farming Group (Kelompok Wanita Tani/KWT). The facility supports water pump operations for green watering in cabbage, tomato, and chili farms.

Additionally, the solar power plant (PLTS) contributes to the operation of the ultrafiltration system for clean water, significantly enhancing the local community's access to drinking water and irrigation.

The DEB program in this village is expected to serve as a model for community empowerment based on renewable energy, which can be replicated in other regions across Indonesia.

Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
